Job Description

Licensed Practical Nurse/Medical Assistant (LPN/MA)

This position provides safe, accurate and clinically competent direct care to patients and families by identifying common and recurring care needs of the patient, assisting providers in performing routine office procedures, providing instruction and referring appropriately.

Prepare patient for examinations, procedures and treatments.
Obtain vital signs.
Assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
Maintain examination/treatment rooms, including inventory of supplies and equipment.
Collect and process specimens.
Perform CLIA-waived tests, and basic laboratory tests.
Perform electrocardiography and respiratory testing.
Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary puncture.
Perform routine diagnostic procedures including audiograms, vision testing, TB skin tests, injections, ear irrigations and assist with minor surgery.
Remove sutures and changing dressings.
Schedule daily assignments, tracking attendance and schedules.
Apply computer and other electronic equipment techniques to support office operations.
Screen and follow up test results.
Recognize and respond to emergencies.
Document patient communication and clinical treatments accurately and appropriately.
Assist the Chronic Care Coordinator with patient tracking and education
Authorize prescription refills as directed by the physician.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Graduate of an accredited LPN school of nursing.
Current CPR certification required within 6 months of hire and maintain.
Current LPN licensure in Minnesota with no restrictions
One-year full-time employment as a LPN preferred


One to two years' experience in a clinic/medical setting.
High School Diploma or GED
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program


Knowledge of medical terminology.
Knowledge of principles of health promotion and disease prevention and life style enhancements.
Consistently works well with people of different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Projects a professional image by following dress and grooming standards.
Consistently follows safety procedures and incident reporting.
General Computer skills.
Excellent organization and record keeping skills.
Ability to multi-task effectively and attend to detail.
Skill in use of medical equipment, medical records, routine laboratory procedures and aseptic techniques.
